Manato Hanaishi
Born in Kobe, Japan in 1964, he moved to Ritto, Shiga Prefecture at the age of five. Influenced by his older brother Kyosuke, he developed a passion for The Beatles and later became captivated by the Bay City Rollers during his elementary school years.
He joined the percussion section of his junior high school’s wind ensemble and also formed a rock band called The Naughtys, where he played guitar. Encouraged by his music teacher, Satoshi Fujiike, he began pursuing percussion seriously.
After enrolling at Higashi-Otsu High School, he started private lessons with Professor Takeshi Yamamoto (former Kyoto City University of Arts). A year later, he continued under the guidance of Professor Takashi Ueno (passed away in 2013). While studying classical music, he was also influenced by the UK punk scene—especially The Jam—leading him to perform as a guitarist and vocalist at school festivals and drum for other bands.
He failed the entrance exam for Kyoto City University of Arts on his first try, but after intensive training in solfège and aural skills with teachers Asako Hayashi (d. 1994), Yuko Fujihana (d. 2017), and Aya Maebayashi, he passed on his second attempt and was admitted to the percussion program.
During college, he joined the student theater group Za KARMA (later known as DUMB TYPE), acting in stage productions for two years. He also performed in the Kansai live house circuit as the drummer of a MODS band called MERSEY BEAT, helping shape the Kansai MODS scene.
He graduated in 1988 and began freelancing as a percussionist, performing with orchestras and ensembles, conducting, and teaching. His motto is: “If I’m needed, I don’t choose the job.” His diverse career includes solo recitals, chamber performances, orchestral work, and education.
In the early 1990s, he contributed to composer Shigenobu Nakamura’s computer music CD and co-founded the children’s music group Pink Cats, performing as a singer, dancer, percussionist, marimba player, and guitarist. Around this time, he also joined the Osaka Symphoniker (now Osaka Symphony Orchestra), though the exact dates are unrecorded.
He later joined the salsa band Rumba Osaka as a timbales player, performing at clubs such as Metro in Kyoto. In 2000, he co-hosted a percussion recital titled 3 MOVEMENTS at Izumi Hall. The following year, he launched an ensemble unit called PUFF THE Magic Dragon, producing multiple concerts including “DEBUT!”, “NEXT!”, “MIX!” (2004), “STANDARD PERCUSSIVE MEETING” (2005), and “White Dreams” (2006).
As an educator and conductor, he has worked with many schools and community bands in Kyoto and Shiga. Notably, he has been deeply involved with the Hybrid Wind Orchestra in Kyoto and the Osaka Gakuin University Wind Ensemble.
Rooted in rock music and inspired by British culture, he adopted the MODS lifestyle—riding his PIAGGIO Vespa scooter, soaking in soul music at P-FUNK BAR in Kyoto, and savoring fine sushi at Marunman Sushi in Osaka. A true percussionist with a passion for rhythm, expression, and community.
花石 眞人
1964年、兵庫県神戸市生まれ。5歳のときに滋賀県栗東市へ移住。
小学校高学年の頃、6歳上の兄・恭介さんの影響でTHE BEATLESに夢中になり、やがてBAY CITY ROLLERSに傾倒する。
栗東中学校では吹奏楽部に入部し、打楽器を担当。一方でロックバンド「The Naughtys」をクラスメイトと結成し、ギターを担当するなど、音楽に夢中な学生時代を送る。吹奏楽部での活動を通して顧問の藤池聡先生から打楽器の道を勧められ、本格的に打楽器奏者を目指すようになる。
東大津高校入学後、元京都市立芸術大学教授・山本毅先生に師事し、
打楽器の個人レッスンを開始。1年後からは当時助教授だった上埜孝先生（2013年没）に師事。
クラシック音楽に取り組みつつも、ロンドン・パンクに心惹かれ、THE JAMの影響で学園祭では
ギター＆ボーカルを務めるコピーバンドを組んだり、ドラムで他バンドに参加するなど幅広く活動。
京都市立芸術大学を現役では不合格となり、
苦手だったソルフェージュや聴音を林浅子先生（1994年没）、藤花優子先生（2017年没）、前林綾先生の指導のもと
猛特訓し、1年後に見事合格。
大学ではクラシックを学ぶ傍ら、学内劇団「座カルマ」（後のDUMB TYPE）に2年間所属し、舞台にも立つ。
学外では、MODSファッションや音楽に影響を受け、「MERSEY BEAT」というバンドでドラマーとして
関西のライブハウスで精力的に活動、関西モッズシーンの一時代を築く。
大学最終年には音楽に専念し、1988年に卒業。
以降、プロオーケストラでのエキストラ出演や、吹奏楽団体の指導・指揮などをベースにフリーランスとして活動を開始。「必要とされるなら仕事は選ばない」を信条に、オーケストラ、アンサンブル、ソロと多彩なステージをこなす。
1990年代前半には作曲家・中村滋延氏のコンピュータ音楽作品に参加。
子ども向けユニット「ピンクキャッツ」では歌、踊り、ドラム、マリンバ、ギターなど多才ぶりを発揮。
大阪シンフォニカー（現：大阪交響楽団）にも在籍（正確な記録は不明）。
サルサバンド「ルンバ大阪」ではティンバレス奏者として、京都「メトロ」など多数のライブに出演。
2000年には「いずみホール」にて打楽器奏者3名によるジョイントリサイタル「3 MOVEMENTS」を開催。
翌年にはアンサンブルユニット「PUFF THE Magic Dragon」を立ち上げ、「DEBUT!」「NEXT!」などの公演を展開。
「MIX!」（2004年）、「STANDARD PERCUSSIVE MEETING」（2005年）、「White Dreams」（2006年）と
継続的に自主公演を企画。
吹奏楽指導者としても京都・滋賀の中学、高校、大学、一般団体に多数関わる。
中でも京都の一般バンド「吹奏楽団ハイブリッド」、大阪の「大阪学院大学吹奏楽部」の指導が特筆に値する。
音楽の原点はロック。英国の音楽・ファッション文化に強く影響を受け、MODS文化に傾倒。
愛車はPIAGGIO社のVespa。SOUL MUSICに酔いしれ、
京都祇園の「P-FUNK BAR」や寿司店「まるまん寿司 東通店」に通う、まさに“一太鼓叩き”の音楽人である。
